December 2015

God has really blessed us this year with an amazing staff. October 2014 was a bad month as we had to dismiss our secretary/pianist/organist/choir director – yes one person who wore many hats. The remaining months of last year saw us hiring a secretary, music director, pianist, and an organist. All of these persons have brought back the spirit of worship and a great work ethic. It has been a positive transition that introduced an environment of praise and worship. I really do enjoy being the pastor of a great staff and congregation.

We have seen the addition of our Hispanic Ministry that worships at 2PM. Pastor Maikel has a tremendous spirit about him that is quite contagious. We had the rare opportunity to baptize an infant during their worship. Several of our folk are beginning to integrate with them during their worship.

The Triple Cross Arena & Cowboy Church has picked up more momentum this summer as they have had several events. Pastor Andrew Gregg has the opportunity to preach the gospel message every time there is an event.

We have added ten members to our church and two of them are professions of faith. One of those was a gentleman we had been praying for over a year…Praise be to God!

We are having visitors most every Sunday and our average worship attendance has grown this year. We make every effort to visit with our visitors and encourage them to come back. You might say we are “wooing them.”

We will be celebrating our 175th Anniversary on December 13th and have invited Bishop Davis to preach our morning message.  We have also invited former pastors and district superintendents. Everyone is excited about planning for this special event.

Our church, parsonage and Gathering Place will be on tour December 5th from 1-7PM. This required a lot of labor of our folk to plan and prepare for this community event.

As you can tell, Harrodsburg UMC is very much involved in the community and is proud of our heritage. We will be sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our “Hanging of the Greens” on December 6. The community is invited to come and share in the program and fellowship afterwards.

At this Christmas season, we will be preparing 200 food baskets for the community and serving them a delightful Christmas dinner. Just another way of sharing God’s love and grace and that is why I’m proud to be called your pastor. Shalom
