Mission Offering for Bishop Lindsey and Jennifer Davis
There will be a mission offering that will be given to honor Bishop Lindsey and Jennifer Davis as they retire. We believe that it is important for Harrodsburg UMC and the Kentucky Conference to say "farewell" to Bishop Davis and to honor his leadership throughout these eight years in Kentucky, as well as for his leadership as a Bishop for the past twenty years.
Bishop Davis and Jennifer have made it clear that their choice for a gift is contributions to Wesley Seminary in Venezuela and Honduras Outreach, Inc. Both of these ministries have been important to the Davises.
Wesley Seminary in Venezuela seeks to reach the lost in their country. They do this primarily by training indigenous pastors and leaders to reach their nation for Christ. Their primary partnership is with the United Methodist Church of Venezuela which was created by students in the Seminary and holds its annual conferences on the Seminary Campus. The vision is to provide an excellent, affordable and accessible Wesleyan theological education by providing a five year undergraduate degree seminary program (initiated October, 2002) in order to train Venezuelan nationals to be effective mission oriented pastors, and provide a 2.5 year Master Degree Program (initiated February, 2013). The overarching goal is to train Venezuelan pastors to be effective mission ministers able to pastor a primary church and to plant additional congregations and social missions for the purpose of reaching the lost of Venezuela.
For the last five years, our Conference youth, along with Jennifer Davis, have partnered with Honduras Outreach, Inc. (HOI) for a mission trip. This has created enduring relationships between HOI and KYAC. HOI has been committed to education in Honduras for over two decades, first by providing scholarships for students to attend secondary schools and later through establishing our own elementary and middle schools. Aldersgate Elementary and Hope Middle, established in 2000 and 2001, are located just minutes away from Rancho el Paraíso and are managed and financed entirely by HOI. Through these schools, 268 students from over thirty villages are given the opportunity to receive a quality education.
Our offering will also provide scholarships to enable our youth to continue the ministry that has begun with HOI on their annual trips.
On Tuesday, June 14th, we will celebrate Bishop Davis’ retirement at Annual Conference after Mission Night. There are four ways in which you may give to the Mission Offering honoring the Davises.
1) Give on line
2) Give through your church.
Sunday, June 5, is the designated date for collection of this year’s offering. If that date is not convenient for your church, please collect the offering at a more conducive time. Each congregation is asked to send its offering to Annual Conference with the church’s lay member. Checks should be made payable to the Kentucky Conference Treasurer.
3) Send a check to the Episcopal office.
Make checks out to Kentucky Conference Treasurer, 7400 Floydsburg Road, Crestwood, KY 40014.
4) Make a contribution at Annual Conference.
