Reverend Allen Gibson
Senior Pastor
Allen Gibson has been an elder in the United Methodist Church for 26 years, and has been in pastoral ministry for more than 30 years. He came to ministry after spending a few years at Kroger; first as a frozen food and dairy clerk, then as a co-manager and finally as a Deli Marketing Representative. In that position, he travelled Southeastern Kentucky and took care of the deli operations for more than 22 operating units.
As a pastor, Allen has served churches in extremely rural to extremely urban environments, and everywhere in between. Having started out in tobacco churches (churches where the majority of income earned by parishioners was from farming tobacco) Allen has pastored in urban neighborhoods in both Louisville and Lexington, as well as in smaller cities in Kentucky such as Ashland and Elizabethtown. “It doesn’t matter where you pastor, it’s the people that make the difference,” Allen says. In every place Allen has enjoyed assisting with music ministry; establishing in-depth Bible Study groups; helping church leadership teams operate more effectively AND more theologically; and most of all connecting with the people in that parish and then helping them to enrich their connection with God.
Allen has his BS from Morehead State University. He went to Lexington Theological Seminary for his M.Div, and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Wisdom School of Ubiquity University in Oakland, California. His hobbies include playing, composing, performing, and recording music; reading; and keeping up with current events. He is married to Lori, a saleswoman who works with architects and designers to help them specify products for their projects. Lori and Allen have two sons: Paul, married to Melissa, living in Virginia where both are attorneys; and Carl, engaged to Shara and living in the Mid Atlantic region where she is the director of a community based non-profit service agency and he is a freelance writer and political activist.
Wanda Gabehart
Secretary
I’ve had the privilege of working as the church secretary since 2015, but I’ve been a part of this church family for much longer. My parents started attending Harrodsburg United Methodist Church when I was five years old. Our church has helped me to grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically. As we know each day brings challenges of its own, but my favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthened me” gets me through the tough times.
